Federal Financial Support Freeze.

Yesterday, news broke that the Trump administration is attempting to freeze all federal grants—a move that would strip aid from marginalized communities. While there’s a temporary hold on this push, the uncertainty of what’s ahead is clear: when it comes to financial aid, marginalized groups will get left with the short end of the stick—if any end at all.

The good news? The Eaton Fire is now 99% contained, and the Palisades Fire is 95% contained. The bad news? The people affected still have nowhere to go. Right now, families are sleeping on cots in the convention center, crowded into shelters, without homes or cars.

During Common Unity’s last donation drive, I met a man who had done well for himself but lost everything in the fire. Now, he was in a shelter, struggling to rest, to rebuild. We were able to provide him with clothes, water, toiletries, and a gift card, but that conversation opened my eyes to their greatest need: shelter. The fires took their homes, their cars, and their stability.

Our goal is to provide $500-$1000 gift cards for hotels and Airbnbs to 100 evacuees that are regaining their footing. I know this is a great feat, but with federal financial aid on the chopping block, it’s clear that this will have to be a community effort.

I will continue to shed light on what is happening in Altadena and Pasadena because, while the media has shifted its focus elsewhere, the need here is still urgent.

We're calling on everyone who can help. If you can donate to this initiative, please do. If you can share this, please spread the word. Every action matters.
